How It Started

In April 2021, a mini-committee laid the foundation for a significant initiative. The inaugural preliminary meeting, held under the auspices of the bishopric at the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Saint Elias on 24/01/2023, marked the commencement. Following this, a spiritually enriched gathering with church pastors took place on 30 May 2023, coinciding with Pentecost. Rehearsals, which were initiated on 18 April 2023 at a bi-monthly pace, intensified to weekly sessions from October 2023.

The Event

Scheduled for January 20, 2024, as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the upcoming celebration will unfold at the expansive "Forum de Beyrouth" complex, designed to accommodate over fifteen thousand attendees. An inclusive and free-of-charge invitation extends to all spiritual families in Lebanon, emphasizing a broad participation of both resident and expatriate volunteers and specialists. These dedicated individuals are organized into various committees, including Administrative, Spiritual, Finance and Fundraising, Technical, Media and Communication, Logistics, and Transportation. The event's unique strength lies in its collaborative effort, with numerous volunteer companies, cultural associations, and national institutions actively contributing to its preparation.

The Choir

An ecumenical choir comprising approximately 250 singers, complemented by a symphony orchestra, represents a harmonious blend of diverse churches. The choir is a microcosm of the Church, spanning ages fifteen to seventy-five, and includes clergy, consecrated individuals, and laypeople from various Lebanese regions. Commencing rehearsals on April 18, 2023, in churches, monasteries, and institutes in downtown Beirut, the intentional choice of location seeks to rejuvenate pastoral and ecclesiastical activities while educating members about the rich ecclesiastical, spiritual, and cultural heritage of the region. Beyond the musical focus, the choir incorporates an essential spiritual dimension, fostering this aspect through additional meetings alongside their weekly rehearsals. As preparations near completion, the choir stands as a testament to unity and diversity within the Church.
